SECOND INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION AND  RECORDS MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT STUDENT CONFERENCE 

 

The “Archives, Libraries and Museums within the Context of Urbanization andDigitization”themed Second International Information and Records Management Department Student Conference will take place during 5-7 May 2016 at the Bağlarbaşı Cultural Centre in Istanbul under the auspices of the Information and Records Management Department of Marmara University, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Information Club of Marmara University and Üsküdar Municipality.

The Conference primarily aims to create a platform at an academic level for students both undergraduate and postgraduate of universities both in Turkey and abroad to contribute to the field by coming together to share and exchange ideas and experiences as the information professionals of the future. At the same time, this conference provides an opportunity for students with the view to adding value as the generation who will carry this cultural heritage to the future to debate and discuss their creative, innovative ideas, suggestions and projects that can be realised in order to contribute to the research on the City Library and Museum being considered for Istanbul which is one of the world’s most important cultural centres. Within this context and in relation to the main theme of the conference, university students from different disciplines and departments such as History, Museology, Environment and Urbanization, Architecture and Engineering can contribute to the proceedings.

The first conference which was themed “The Visionary Revolution in Information and Records Management” took place on 25-27 April 2014 and like the first conference, the most important mission of the second conference is to host the “World Information and Records Management Department Student Meeting,’’ which is a very important meeting and will see university students attend from both Turkey and abroad

It is envisaged that within the scope of the "International Information and Records Management Department Student Conference" that all aspects of the issues encountered in the instruction of the field and its analysis will be examined from the students’ point of view. Within this context, relevant abstracts relating to the field of Information and Records Management and poster presentations submitted by university students will be debated at panels following their assessment by academics on the Scholarship Committee. In addition,ephemera, photographs, pictures, crafts workshops and choir recitals made possible by the contribution of students will be exhibited throughout the duration of the conference and will give students and participants the chance to examine and get acquainted with the field from a different and varied perspective. The text of the presentations of the conference will also be published in the Conference Proceedings Booklet. One of the exciting stages of the conference is that an award ceremony will take place for categories such as project, library, librarian, user and writer of the year in relevant areas in order to ensure motivation.
